Tropical Turtle STX — Peaceful Retreat
We spent a week in St. Croix with another couple and couldn’t have asked for a better Caribbean getaway. The Tropical Turtle made relaxing effortless. This condo goes beyond the other rentals in upscale comfort with generous seating, local artwork, and premium mattresses. The kitchen was well supplied for my husband who wanted to make us breakfast everyday. He even cooked our Sunday dinner out on the grill.
Our favorite spot was the patio, or gallery, as the Crucians call it. We lingered over morning coffee enjoying the ocean breezes and the courtyard view of exotic flowers, hermit crabs, and mongooses (mongeese?). The resort felt so safe and secure. Most days were spent swimming in the pool or lounging at the beach. Reading a book was more my vibe, but the palm trees were pleasantly distracting. If you walk up the beach, you’ll find the absolute best spot for taking photos for instagram.
The island offers many choices for your daily excursion with the rental car (stay left). The location was so convenient to many attractions. I recommend your first stop be Point Udall on the windward side, and the next day to Frederiksted on the leeward calm side for easy snorkeling. A highlight of our sightseeing was a lovely sunset catamaran boat cruise with music and rum punch of course.
Most evenings were spent at a restaurant on the Christiansted boardwalk, just a a short drive (again, stay left) from the condo. Another favorite is the Coral Sea restaurant adjoining the property where you can drink strong cocktails and stumble back, no driving required. After long days in the sun, having a place this comfortable to come back to was a huge plus. The owners have thought of your every need, so it’s easy to just pack light. Leave your watch at home, cause it’s island time.
