Dinner at The Deep End
Dinner, Sunsets, and Sneaky Bites at The Deep End

Welcome to the very first post on the Tropical Turtle STX blog! We’re officially dipping our toes into the blog waters, so bear with me while I figure out the waves, buttons, and probably a few “oops” moments along the way. My hope is that this little corner of the internet becomes a fun, helpful, and sunshine-filled place to share favorite spots, travel tips, island moments, and plenty of reasons to love St. Croix.
On our most recent trip in May, we made our way back to one of our tried-and-true favorites: The Deep End. It’s one of those places we always try to squeeze in at least once while we’re on island—part dinner spot, part beach hangout, part “why don’t we live here?” daydream fuel.
And the view? Oh, the view. The Deep End sits right on the beach, with Green Cay and Buck Island out in the distance like they were placed there specifically for your vacation photos. It’s the kind of setting that makes you pause mid-conversation just to stare for a second.
We usually plan our visit around dinner and the show — which deserves its own post, and yes, that’s coming next! Our favorite move is to arrive right around sunset, settle in with something delicious, and let the sky do its thing. And trust me, sunset from The Deep End is not just a backdrop. It is the main character.
Dinner was a definite win. The Deep End has new ownership and management, and the menu seemed to have even better choices than before. I ordered the chicken tonkatsu from the Specials Menu, and it was exceptional. Our guest for the evening was my mom, who chose fried rice with chicken, while my husband went with fried rice with mahi. The fried rice was very good—but apparently my tonkatsu was irresistible, because both my mom and husband kept sneaking bites from my plate like I wouldn’t notice. Thankfully, age and GLP-1 drugs have done their part in shrinking our appetites, so I was feeling generous. We all enjoyed the meal, and there were plenty of leftovers to take home.
Bonus leftover tip: the fried rice, chicken, and mahi made fantastic wraps the next day. Just toss everything in a skillet with a little oil, your favorite spices, and some veggies, then wrap it up for an easy, tasty lunch. Vacation leftovers for the win.
